Millennium Awards

The Farmington Institute has run two schemes in partnership with the Millennium Commission. Both schemes set out to support the teaching of RE in schools, and have been open to teachers of all faiths or none.

The Farmington Institute Millennium Awards, from 1997-2000, gave 76 Primary school teachers the opportunity to spend a term out of school studying an aspect of Religious Education of value to the teaching of RE in schools. The Farmington Institute Special Needs Millennium Awards started in 2000 and finish at the end of the academic year 2003. The object of this scheme is to provide RE teachers with an interest in children with special educational needs and SEN teachers with an interest in RE with an opportunity to do research or develop teaching materials which will help in the teaching of RE to children with special educational needs. All places on this scheme have now been awarded. The reports of the work done by teachers so far are on this website, and more reports will appear as they are received from the Award holders.
